SBCC Theatre Arts Department presents
THE SUICIDE a Black Comedy
by Nikolai Erdman

In Nikolai Erdman’s dark farce, The Suicide, unlikely hero Semyon Semyonovich, longs to make a dramatic change in his life following a year of unemployment. His first idea--to make a living as a concert tuba player is dashed when he realizes he also needs a piano in order to tune his instrument. Cast back into despair, he determines to take his own life, blaming no one for his decision. As the news spreads quickly, a whole host of characters arrive hoping to take advantage of his action. But as they propel him enthusiastically forward towards his chosen path, Semyon begins to have doubts about the whole proposition. Described as a “spectacular mixture of the ridiculous and the sublime,” The Suicide is by turns hilarious, provocative and deeply moving.
