Guest conductor Mark Russell Smith and cellist Joshua Roman, dubbed classical music’s “rockstar”, will sweep Santa Barbara audiences off their feet in an exciting program featuring old and new works. Barber’s heartrending Adagio for Strings (in recognition of the composer’s 100th birthday anniversary) and Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme will be complemented by the Grammy® award-winning Argentine-composer Osvaldo Golijov’s Ausencia for cello and strings and Schumann’s uplifting Second Symphony written in part as a tribute to his predecessor Johann Sebastian Bach.
Throughout the month of March, the Santa Barbara Symphony will be holding a Food Drive, as part of a national League of American Orchestras initiative, Orchestras Feeding America. Check www.thesymphony.org for dates and locations.
